New MP: Windows Azure Fabric – Preview

This is a new management pack for Window Azure that can monitor the Fabric. It is replacement MP for the pervious version of Windows Azure MP. It is still in preview so it is not supported in production. Here is overview from download link:

The Management Pack for Windows Azure Fabric enables you to monitor the availability and performance of Azure fabric resources that are running on Windows Azure. The management pack runs on a specified proxy agent and then uses various Windows Azure APIs to remotely discover and collect instrumentation information about a specified Windows Azure resource, such as a Cloud Service, Storage or Virtual Machine. The Management Pack for Windows Azure Fabric provides no functionality on import. For each Windows Azure subscription that contains Azure resources you want to monitor, you must configure discovery and monitoring by first using the Windows Azure wizard in the administration section of the OM Console, then the Windows Azure Monitoring template in the authoring section of the OM Console.

Issue 3

Rules and monitors that were created by using the UNIX/Linux Shell Command templates do not contain overridable ShellCommand and Timeout parameters.

When a System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 item level restore operation is performed on a SharePoint host header-based site collection, the restore operation is unsuccessful.

Issue 3

When you open Data Protection Manager on a computer that is running System Center 2012 Service Pack 1, the Welcome screen does not indicate the correct version of Service Pack 1.

Issue 4

When you perform a disconnected installation of the Data Protection Manager 2012 Service Pack 1 agent, you receive the following error message:

Protection agent cannot be installed on a machine where DPM is installed.

Issue 6

Backups of CSV volumes may be unsuccessful with metadata file corruption in Data Protection Manager 2012 Service Pack 1.

Issue 7

The Data Protection Manager console may require more time to open than expected when many client systems are being protected.

This Update rollup is suppose to bring Exchange Connector for Service Manager but I do not see it mentioned in the KB article. May be it will be released as an additional download like the Cloud Process Pack and GRC Pack.

Another strange thing in this update is that addresses issues in App Controller Setup. Does this mean that new full installation of SC 2012 SP1 with UR2 will be published on MSDN, Technet and VL sites?

I will update this article if more information appears.

Full KB article is located here. Read the installation instructions before applying.

Update Rollup 5 for System Center 2012

While waiting for Update Rollup 2 for System Center 2012 SP1 it seems System Center 2012 without SP1 received its UR5. In this update only two of the components receive fixes:

Virtual Machine Manager (KB2824618)
Issue 1

A host that is put into maintenance mode does not load-balance virtual machines in a cluster during evacuation. This causes host reserve saturation.

Operations Manager (KB2831729)
Issue 1

The Solaris agent could run out of file descriptors when many multi-version file systems (MVFS) are mounted.

Issue 2

Logical and physical disks are not discoverable on AIX-based computers when a disk device file is contained in a subdirectory.

Issue 3

Rules and monitors that were created by using the UNIX/Linux Shell Command templates do not contain overridable ShellCommand and Timeout parameters.

Issue 4

Process monitors that were created by using the UNIX/Linux Process Monitoring template cannot save in an existing management pack that has conflicting references to library management packs.

Issue 5

The Linux agent cannot install on a CentOS or Oracle Linux host by using the FIPS version of OpenSSL 0.9.8.

Full description of the update and download links you kind find in KB article.

Read carefully the installation instructions as the update for SCOM has some special instructions. I would also wait System Center Monitoring Pack for UNIX and Linux Operating Systems to be updated because it is part of the update. The current download is still from 01.08.2013.

Configuring SQL Analysis Services for Virtual Machine Manager 2012 SP1 with Static Port Resulted in an Error

Reporting in System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager is achieved trough the integration with OpsMgr 2012. In order to run some of the VMM reports that have forecasting you have to configure the VMM to SCOM integration to use SQL Analysis Services instance. This instance should be the same instance with Reporting Services for SCOM. So I’ve installed SQL Analysis Services on the same instance with Reporting Services for SCOM. It is not the default instance on the server so I’ve configured SQL Analysis Services to use a specific static port instead of using a dynamic one (I like using static ports for SQL servers Smile ). I’ve opened the VMM console. Went to settings, than System Center settings and I’ve opened the properties of Operations Manager Server. Click on the SQL Server Analysis Services tab and entered the SQL server name, the SQL instance, the port that I had set and the credentials to connect. To my surprise I’ve received and error to my surprise I’ve received an error message:

The SQL Server Analysis Server %ComputerName; is not reachable.

I’ve opened CMD and checked if there is a connection to the SQL server and the port via Telnet. Connection was OK. Than I’ve replaced the port with 0 and connection was successful. SQL Analysis Services were configured successfully. To me this is a bug and I will try to log it.
