New MP: System Center 2012 Monitoring Pack for Windows Server Backup

There is a new management pack on the horizon. For those who use Windows Server Backup they can now monitor it with SCOM 2012 or SCOM 2007 R2. Unfortunately it only supports Backup feature on Windows Server 2012. The documentation with the MP scattered and doesn’t offer much information. In fact Windows Server 2012 in the documentation is mentioned with its codename Windows Server 8. Also I do not have any idea why SCCM 2012 is also mentioned as required software. Anyway the MP just monitor several events in the event log:

  • Backup cancelled
  • Backup failed
  • Backup failed due to snapshot
  • Backup partially succeeded
  • Backup succeeded with skipped files
  • Recovery failed
  • Recovery succeeded with warnings

The MP and the two page guide you can download from here.

New MP: Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 Management Pack for System Center

This new management pack provides separate downloads for SCOM 2007 R2 and SCOM 2012. As the name says the MP monitors Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013. More on the MP you can find in the documentation which together with the installation files can be found here.

New Version: Active Directory Domain Services Management Pack for System Center

Another new version of MP is out. According to the documentation this new version was prepared in December 2012 but released in January 2013. Here are the changes taken directly from the documentation:

Fixes

Impact

Product knowledge improvements

· Client Monitoring alerts identify problematic domain controllers in the description.

· Interdomain trust alert identifies which trust is broken in the alert description.

· More specific action recommendations added to alert for “Could not determine FSMO role holder” and alert for “domain Controller’s Ops Master is inconsistent.”

· Knowledge Base article information added to alert for “The Active Directory database is corrupt.”

· Knowledge Base article information added to alert for “Two replication partners have an inconsistent view of the FSMO role holders.”

· Some rules with names that begin “Client Side script…“ but were not actually executed by client-side monitors were renamed.

· More specific action recommendation added to description for Event ID 1000.

Excessive alert fixes

· A duplicate alert that appears when a computer authentication fails was removed.

· Repetitive alerts for UserEnv and Netlogon were replaced with a single alert that includes a count of the number of occurrences.

· The alert for the number of allowable replication partners was increased from 100 to the maximum number of replication connections.

· The alert of FSMO role holder availability was refined so that it is issued less frequently in cases where operations master role holder is temporarily unavailable.

· Active Directory processor overload monitor was removed because it duplicates an existing monitor in the operating system management pack.

· Duplicate alerts for KDC errors and trust verification failures were removed.

· Informational alert was disabled for rule “The default security settings for the NTFS file systems have not been applied to Active Directory directory folders.”

Script error fixes

Multiple script errors were fixed to improve Active Directory site topology discovery, DNS verification, operation master role discovery, and other improvements.

Rule error fixes

Multiple rule errors were fixed to improve error handling, event logging, and server state reporting.

As you can see no new features just bug fixes. You can download version 6.0.8070.0 of Active Directory Domain Services Management Pack for System Center from here.

Lync Server 2013 Monitoring Management Pack

Microsoft has released a management pack for Lync Server 2013. The new management pack is compatible with SCOM 2007 R2 and SCOM 2012. The MP can coexist with the MP for Lync Server 2010. There is guidance how to configure that coexistence. This new management pack introduces some additional features compared to the previous version for Lync Server 2010. Now you can assign computers to be watcher nodes. What is watcher node:

Watcher nodes are computers that periodically run Lync Server synthetic transactions. Synthetic transactions are Windows PowerShell cmdlets that verify that key user scenarios, such as the ability to sign in or to exchange instant messages, are working as expected.

The new mp, the installation files for watcher nodes and the guide you can find here.

Remember to read the guide first.

Lync Server 2010 Monitoring Management Pack updated

New version 4.0.7577.203 of the MP for Lync Server 2010. There are not so many changes:

  • Added functionality to support co-existence of management packs during migration from Lync Server 2010 to Lync Server 2013. For more information, see Coexistence with Lync Server 2013 Management Packs.
  • Fixed an issue that caused alerts from non-Windows computers that were not used by Lync.

You can download the MP and its guide from here.

In addition to this new version I’ve spotted this new knowledge base article:

Description of the cumulative update for Lync Server 2010 Monitoring Management Pack: December 2012

Remember to read the guide before importing as it is 43 pages long and contains vital information for configuring the management pack.
