New MPs: System Center 2012 Management Pack for Windows Server Hyper-V 2012 and two more

It is here. Probably one of the most wanted and waited management packs – Windows Server Hyper-V 2012. On the download page the MP promises the following features:

  • Management of critical Hyper-V services that affect virtual machines and host server functionality
  • Management of host server logical disks that affect virtual machine health
  • Full representation of virtualization in a single Hyper-V host server, including virtual networks, and virtual machines
  • Monitoring of virtual machine hardware components that affect availability

This MP is only supported on SCOM 2012 or later. The documentation can be found in the installation folder after you install the MP. I’ve took a quick look at the documentation it is not long just 20 pages but it is good to read. Let’s hope there are no critical bugs in the MP because of the tight schedule of SC 2012 SP1. Download link is here.

Along with this MP several days ago two more MPs were released

Introducing SCVMM Service Templates and Datacenter Automation by Solution Accelerators Team

Update: As I wrote Microsoft is announcing two new Solution Accelerator beta programs for System Center products and now it is official at Microsoft SCVMM team blog.

Solution Accelerators Team in Microsoft is starting two new initiatives:

  • System Center Virtual Machine Manager Service Templates – Solution Accelerators Team will probably create a site where SCVMM service templates will be published and supported by Microsoft.  The first release will include templates for various Windows Server 2008 R2 and 2012 Roles – Domain Controller, DNS, DHCP, IIS and File Server. There will be also add-in for SCVMM that will be able to browse and download these service templates.
  • Datacenter Automation for the cloud  – From this initiative we will probably see scripts and runbooks for Orchestrator supported by Microsoft. The first solutions will be focused on SharePoint and Windows Server – Orchestrator Runbooks for quick SharePoint farm back-up and recovery scenario; Back up a Web application; Back up a service application; Trace logs; Checking Disk Space, CPU and RAM; Sharepoint WMI scan for perf/alerts; Scan for missing patches / WMI.

The two initiatives will start as beta programs on Microsoft Connect soon.

System Center 2012 Monitoring Pack for SharePoint 2010

What I should mention first about this new MP is that it is not standalone functional MP. It is actually supplemental MP for Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products Management Pack for System Center Operations Manager 2007. So you have to import the old MP for SharePoint first and than import the new one. What actually the new MP does is to add task that will configure SharePoint 2010 monitoring on SCOM 2012. You can all steps in the 4 pages manual that comes with the MP. The manual and the management pack can be found here.
